How to make a Hexagon Granny ‘Square’

These things are so easy to make, I got addicted pretty quickly:

Here is my step by step guide to making a hexagon granny square.

1. Choose three colours that you love.

2. Chain 4 – it doesn’t matter which size hook you use.

3. Make a loop and from the loop, chain 3:

4. Crochet into the loop 11 double crochet stitches. The 3 chain you started with will act as a stitch, so you have 12 stitches altogether. When you have done your 12 stitches, slip stitch into the 3 chain you started with.

5. Chain 3 in a different colour and do one double crochet.

6. Then chain 1 and do a half double crochet cluster into the next stitches. To do this, you do a double crochet, but instead of pulling the thread through the two loops left on your hook at the end of the stitch, you leave them on and do another double crochet stitch – yarn over, pull the thread through – now you have 4 stitches. Pull the thread through 2 then pull the thread through the three remaining loops on your hook.

Chain 1.

7. Continue doing this until you have finished. You should have 12 stitches. This is important. I have messed this up so many times. Keep on counting! Slip stitch into the initial stitch:

8. Introduce the next colour by chaining 3. Then into the same stitch, do 2 double crochet stitches. For the next stitches, double crochet 3 times into each space.

Chain 1 in between each set of 3 double crochet stitches.

9. Now introduce the starter colour in a slip stitch. Chain 3 and slip stitch into the gaps in the clusters below. Repeat til finish. Slip stitch into the first stitch.

10. Now for the fun bit. To make your hexagon shape, you first of all need to chain 3, as above.

Into the space below in the first section, double crochet 2, chain 2, double crochet 3.

Into the next space, double crochet 3.

Into the next space, double crochet 3, chain 2, double crochet 3.

Into the next space, double crochet 3.

Repeat until finish and then slip stitch into the first chain.

And there you have it! Boom!
